Hey! We're The Locals
Hey, hi, hello!
We are Nerissa and Matt, and we have a small business in Winnipeg called The Locals. We’ve been at it for over 5 years with the mission to help you shop as local as possible. How do we do that? A few ways:
1. Our store
We have a store in Winnipeg’s only outlet mall! Much of that store is dedicated to celebrating our city and the many makers and businesses that make up our community. We’ve highlighted hundreds of locals, most of which are from our province of Manitoba.
2. Our events
We’ve been planning markets for a while now, most recently our 1-weekend event called The Summer of Locals. There we had local vendors, food trucks, kids activities, a beer garden, and much more. We’ve been dipping our toes into networking events for small business owners to help them level up their skills in bringing you their best.
3. Our own merchandise
We are makers too! We design and work with graphic designers to give you our take on pop culture, and make them in-store! Our latest line, All the Feels, captures the feels that entrepreneurs experience on a daily basis. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the Entrepreneur Mental Health Association.
4. Everything in between
We’re also appearing at various markets and events to bring what we do to more locals and spread the word. We are big on collaborating with local businesses and organizations. And we always look to highlight the talent we have in our city when possible. The awesome thing about our mission is that helping you shop local can take on so many forms. It helps us keep an open mind and give everything a fair shot.
That's all for now! Whether you're hearing all this for the first time, or you're a day 1 supporter, we always want to say thank you. It's only through local support that we are where we are. If you do see us out in the wild, don't be afraid to say hi!
If you want to stay connected, the best way to keep up with us is through Instagram or our newsletter via our website.
Until next time!
Keep being awesome,Matt and Nerissa
